West Seals Campus Research Deal with iCONN

Colleges across Connecticut will offer West's news, business and legal research service
EAGAN, Minn., July 21, 2008 — West has secured a contract for its Campus Research service with the Connecticut State Library for use in iCONN.org - Connecticut's re-search engine for academic libraries.
Powered by Westlaw®, Campus Research provides students and librarians with the most comprehensive collection of research materials available, making it easier for college students and faculty to find the news, business and law-related information they need faster and more efficiently.
Campus Research will replace the current research service used in iCONN, and provide its thousands of news databases, business journals and publications, and superior law-related resources to full-time students across Connecticut colleges. The three-year contract for nearly 140,000 students is the largest Campus Research agreement to date.
"A fundamental premise of iCONN has been to leverage state dollars to bring a wide range of resources to libraries throughout Connecticut," according to State Librarian Kendall Wiggin. "Through this agreement with West we will be able to broaden iCONN's offerings for colleges and universities while realizing substantial savings."
The Campus Research service includes:
A simplified, easy-to-navigate interface based on usability studies with college students and librarians.
  • Thousands of news databases with nearly all of the publications in full-text.
  • Access to newspapers, newswires, magazines and broadcast transcripts, including international and foreign language publications, current and archival editions and more.
  • Business, trade and professional journals, such as Financial Times and BioWorld Today.
  • More than 800 law reviews and journals, including Harvard Law Review, Yale Law Journal, and analytical resources such as Am Jur and American Law Reports, which is exclusive to West.
  • Federal and state case law, including cases from the U.S. Supreme Court, and the full text of the United States Code Annotated (USCA) and Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).
Campus Research users also receive the full benefits of Westlaw's exclusive features and editorial enhancements - such as the Key Number System and KeySearch, which help simplify student's searches by classifying points of law.
"This contract is a huge step for West's Campus Research," says Tom Kelleher, regional manager, Government Segment, West. "We've developed a strong relationship with iCONN, and hope to build off of this successful model to expand our reach in this space and provide this service to other statewide clients."
