West km for Litigation is an add-on module to West km Foundation Services that is ideal for use by everyone involved in the process of managing litigation matters.
West km for Litigation speeds up the research and preparation of documents so that you can be more productive and billable. At the heart of West km for Litigation is the ability to categorize and search for your organization's internal documents using West's KeySearch® taxonomy, find your documents by cited reference using KeyCite® technology, and search for your documents using Westlaw® search methods.
The KeySearch Advantage
With West km for Litigation, you can search for your internal documents using the KeySearch taxonomy, which is powered by the West Key Number System®. West km automatically classifies your internal documents into the KeySearch taxonomy, giving more precise results when searching for material on a particular legal topic. West km also provides for a customized text query along with each KeySearch category to improve search results. KeySearch, in combination with full-text searching, provides the most advanced set of research tools for legal practitioners.

Whether you are an expert or novice researcher, KeySearch can save you time and deliver improved search results.
The KeyCite Advantage
KeyCite is West's premier citation research service that tracks the history of a document and retrieves all citing references. With West km for Litigation, KeyCite technology allows you to easily find your internal documents by cited reference. In addition, from an internal document you can link to cited documents on Westlaw, access KeyCite information for cited documents, and easily find other internal documents that cite the document.

KeyCite easily identifies all work product that cites the document you are viewing on Westlaw.
KeyCite status flags tell you at-a-glance whether documents cited in your internal document are used in any other internal document or have a negative history. These easy-to-recognize symbols make it nearly impossible to overlook history that could undermine your argument. Depth-of-treatment stars save valuable time by helping you focus on the most important citing references. In addition, an add-in toolbar for word processors allows you to embed citation links and KeyCite status flags in word-processing documents, providing instantaneous views of the validity of legal citations in a document.
The Westlaw Advantage
West km for Litigation allows you to search for relevant internal work product as well as information in any Westlaw database. You can search both internal and Westlaw documents, just internal documents, or just Westlaw documents. The search interface mirrors Westlaw search functionality and allows you to perform full-text searches for internal documents by keyword or by Westlaw Terms and Connectors. Additional features include the following:
- Limits helps you quickly find relevant documents by reducing the size of a West km result list according to specific criteria, including author, date, depth of treatment, and others.
- Locate allows you to run a full-text search within a West km result list.
- Field searching allows you to restrict all or part of a West km search to specific metadata, such as author or client-matter.
- Westlaw search integration allows you to search internal documents from Westlaw tabbed custom pages and search templates.
- ResultsPlus® enables your West km searches to automatically suggest additional content on Westlaw that is related to your search.
