West km Foundation Services provides the core software components for West km Enterprise. It provides the following key functions: security, administration, DMS integration, and fundamental indexing and search capabilities.

West km Foundation Services provides the core search capability for West km Enterprise
CaRE®, KeySearch®, and Custom Classifier
West km Foundation Services includes CaRE®, a built-in categorization engine that automatically classifies documents according to the West KeySearch taxonomy. KeySearch organizes thousands of legal issues into a hierarchy of topics and subtopics. In West km, CaRE analyzes and assigns your organization's internal documents to relevant topics in the KeySearch taxonomy. And if the standard KeySearch taxonomy does not completely suit your organization's needs, you can create custom categories for additional legal topics or split an existing KeySearch topic into multiple subtopics.
West km Custom Classifier, an optional component of West km Foundation Services, is the version of CaRE software that allows you to create your own custom categories within the KeySearch taxonomy and train the categorization engine to assign documents to those new categories automatically.
West km Vetting Toolkit
An important part of creating a knowledge repository is selecting documents from your DMS for inclusion in your collection. Many organizations have attempted to index the full content of a DMS, only to find that performance and results both suffer. A better approach is to find and include only documents that represent high-value work product.
The West km Vetting Toolkit, an optional component of West km Foundation Services, provides a precise approach to finding documents for inclusion in West km. It ensures the selection of appropriate documents and reduces the number of unwanted documents. Using the vetting toolkit, you can finely tune rule sets that automatically run against your DMS source collection. Rules define which documents should be included, as well as which should be excluded, by identifying documents using profile attributes or full-text searching. In addition, the vetting toolkit provides a visual interface that allows content managers to spot-check and confirm that the right documents are added to West km.
